SUMMARY:North Star SHRM seminar: Are Your Employees High?
DESCRIPTION:North Star SHRM will be hosting a seminar titled: Are Your Employees High?   It will be held at Great River Energy (17845 East Highway 10\, Elk River) on Wednesday\, March 11\, 2020 from 8 am to 9:30 am. All North Star SHRM members are invited to attend.  In addition\, all Elk River\, Monticello\, and I-94 West Chamber members are invited to attend.  There is no cost to attend.\n\nThe target audience for this seminar is HR professionals and any business owners.  What if they are stoned on their own time?  What if they get high while on a trip to a state where it is legally and readily available?  As marijuana becomes more and more accepted by society and available recreationally\, employers face a conundrum   how will marijuana affect our workplaces\, and should we test for it.  The answers have real consequences for applicants\, employees\, and workplaces.  So\, what should you do?  This session will include some practical considerations and tips on how to handle pot.\n\nObjectives are:\n\n	Identify the legal pitfalls surrounding marijuana in the workplace\n	Develop strategies to handle reasonable accommodation issues that could affect employment decisions\n	Understand obligations of federal contractors and specific regulations with regard to marijuana.\n\nThis seminar will be presented by Kate Bischoff with tHRive Law & Consulting LLC. \n\nKate Bischoff is an overly enthusiastic and opinionated management attorney and SHRM-SCP certified HR pro.  She works closely with management\, HR folk\, and technology companies to improve organizations and make it easier to recruit and retain talent through having easy-to-understand policies\, easy-to-use technology\, and easy-to-explain compliance initiatives.
