Joseph Nayquonabe - Commissioner of Corporate Affairs Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures.
As CEO, Nayquonabe serves as the chairman of the board of directors for Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures, which analyzes new business opportunities and oversees the Band?s existing businesses, including Grand Casino Mille Lacs, Grand Casino Hinckley, the Crowne Plaza St. Paul Riverfront Hotel and the DoubleTree by Hilton in St. Paul, Minn., the Embassy Suites in Oklahoma City, Eddy?s Resort on Lake Mille Lacs, Sweetgrass Media, 2020 Brand Solutions and numerous small businesses. When Nayquonabe assumed the role of CEO, he made the boldest move in the company?s history when he directed MLCV to grow its non-gaming revenue streams and invest in hospitality and marketing industries. Since then, non-gaming revenue has grown more than 236% and non-gaming cash flow has increased by 1,191%. In addition to his work, Nayquonabe serves on the Friends of Como Zoo board of directors, the American Indian Advisory Board for St. Cloud State University, Minnesota Lodging Association and the American Red Cross Minnesota Region Board of Directors.

Joseph Nayquonabe Jr., MLB Commissioner of Corporate Affairs, is a 2013 ?Native American 40 Under 40″ award recipient from the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (NCAIED).
This prestigious award recognizes 40 emerging American Indian leaders from across Indian Country who have demonstrated leadership, initiative, and dedication and made significant contributions in business and/or in their communities.
The award was presented on October 24, 2013 at the NCAIED?s 38th Annual Indian Progress In Business Awards Gala at the Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino in Chandler, Ariz.
Joe was appointed Commissioner of Corporate Affairs in September, 2012. He serves as the chief executive officer and chair of the board of directors for the Mille Lacs Band?s Corporate Commission.
The Commission analyzes new business opportunities and oversees the Band?s existing businesses, including Grand Casino Mille Lacs, Grand Casino Hinckley, and numerous small businesses.
Joe played a key role in the purchase of two downtown St. Paul hotels by the Mille Lacs Band in 2012. Those purchases denote a new direction for the Band as it expands into the hospitality industry. In a previous interview, Joe said it is important for the Band to make sizeable investments in non-gaming enterprises as a way to ensure future economic viability and make it less dependent on gaming revenue.
He has a bachelor?s degree in marketing from St. Cloud State University and a master?s degree in business administration from the University of Minnesota?s Carlson School of Management. In 2013, he received a master?s degree in tribal administration and governance from the University of Minnesota ? Duluth.
Joe and his wife, Christina, live in Onamia with their daughters, Bella, Phoenix-Rose, and Xiana. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball, golf, music, and reading.
