Deadlift for Kids
What I'm doing:
I'm deadlifting 225 lbs, 1,070 times which represents a pound for every child under 18 in Minnesota with a development or physical disability.
Who I'm raising money for:
This was the biggest challenge and I haven't partnered with any one charity but am recommending the following 5.
www.truefriends.org (Camp Courage) - fun camps for kids with needs
www.wecanride.org (therapeutic horse riding - my daughter does this, and it's also used for PTSD treatment)
www.fishingforlife.org (fishing generally for kids without access, but have begun taking special needs kids out)
www.fraser.org (large autism services provider, including education and housing)
www.pacer.org (large organization that helps parents across the board with special needs)
One thing I've learned with a daughter with special needs is that she loves riding and being on boats and movement and fun. That's why the top three are included. At the same time, I know that we need programs and the last two do that well. The way donations will work is that I will have a laptop or two with the pages open and everyone can go and donate to whoever they want if that's easiest. I'll have a sheet to write down the donation as I'm tracking that. For those who want to write a check or leave a donation I will have envelopes and people can do it that way. Then I will get those donations to the charities.
For those who are not attending, feel free to mail checks made out to the charity of your choice. They can be mailed to 8381 Norwood Lane N Maple Grove MN 55369. If you give online, please notate in comments that this is for Deadlift For Kids.
There are some costs so if anyone wants to assist with those, I appreciate it, but it is not required. There will be food at the event and Yellowtree will be selling beverages. I will have some music and other stuff in the waiting area. There will be two sets of weights, in the theater, one I'm using and another for anyone who wants to do some reps!
I appreciate any support and hope that this will be the first go round of more events to come.
In addition this is a great opportunity to see a wonderful local theater and learn about what they’re doing. The outside of the facility really does not do the inside justice.
