From Water Coolers to Snapchat: Preventing Sexual Harassment and Bullying in a Modern Workplace

The target audience for this seminar is HR professionals and any small business owners.  Employers face a challenging world in which they must maintain a workforce free from sex-based harassment and bullying, particularly given that employers can be held responsible for harassing behavior by employees at all levels and by non-employees, such as customers.  This session will address how to minimize the risk of harassment and bullying by establishing sound policies and consistently enforcing them with all employees, including executives.  The presenters will also discuss how to respond if an employee claims that harassment has occurred or if the employer becomes aware of harassment, even if no complaint is made.  Finally, the presenters will cover the public relations implications of harassment allegations and the associated response by companies and their boards, as well as the necessity of having a plan when crises arise.
Objectives are:

  • Learn how to minimize the risk of harassment and bullying in your workplace.
  • Learn how to respond when you learn about a situation of harassment in your workplace.
  • Understand how to establish sound policies and consistently enforce them.
This seminar will be presented by Cynthia Bremer, Shareholder from Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. in Minneaplis.
Cynthia is the managing shareholder of the Minneapolis office.  Cynthia has extensive experience in employment law and complex litigation matters.  Her practice focuses on representing corporations and corporate management in all types of employment law matters.  While Cynthia’s primary focus has been employment litigation defense in federal and state courts throughout the Midwest, including class and collective actions.  Cynthia advises companies on critical employment law issues involving past and present employees.
Prior to entering private practice in Minneapolis in 1999, Cynthia was in private practice in North Dakota.  While in North Dakota, Cynthia was also a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of North Dakota and represented the State in dozens of administrative hearings and appeals.
