This position supports the Community and Economic Development Director in providing leadership and oversight to the Community and Economic Development Department and directly supervising the rental housing coordinator, and building official, as well as the community development internship program.

Responsibilities

As the Assistant Community and Economic Development Director, you will be responsible for the following:
Develop and implement strategies, policies and programs to achieve the City's economic development goals. Retain, support, and attract businesses through relationship-building, outreach, and promotion of Maple Grove as a premier business location. Manage development and redevelopment projects, incentive programs, and affordable housing initiatives. Serve as liaison and advocate with city leadership, council, commissions, chambers, regional partners, and legislators. Oversee business marketing, promotional efforts, and community engagement initiatives. Respond to business inquiries, maintain databases of available sites/buildings, and ensure timely communication with stakeholders. Provide leadership support across planning, zoning, housing, and inspections. Monitor economic trends and recommend policies to ensure the City's long-term financial vitality. Serve as Acting Director of Community and Economic Development in the absence of the Director.Knowledge of:Administrative and organizational practices. Public administration principles, including budgeting and record-keeping. Relevant laws and regulations. Effective management and supervision techniques. Modern office practices and software.Ability to:Organize and prioritize tasks independently. Establish and maintain positive working relationships. Communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Analyze problems and provide logical recommendations. Prepare clear reports and correspondence. Manage contracts and assess the impact of legislation on the City. Maintain confidentiality. -
Qualifications

An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
Need to have:Bachelor’s degree in Economic Development, City/Urban Planning, Real Estate Development or a related field. Possession or ability to obtain a valid MN driver’s license. Five years of progressively responsible experience in local government economic development, city planning, public administration, real estate development or a closely related field,Nice to have:Master’s degree in in a related field.Experience supervising staff.Previous experience working in a municipality.Previous experience working/interacting with Met Council, MN Deed, MN Housing and other MN state agencies.National Development Council Economic Development Finance Professional Certification, Economic Development Finance Professional Certification, or similar certification in real estate finance -
